Don Burton lead over 40 participants on our November 12th Bird Walk at Humber Bay Park East. It was a chilly, but sunny day. There were no significant concentrations of “winter” waterfowl around the park, but there were a few surprises. We had a flyover Common Loon and a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers hanging out in a flock of American Goldfinches.

We managed to tally 29 species in total:

Canada Goose
Mute Swan
Gadwall
Mallard
Northern Shoveler
Long-tailed Duck
Bufflehead
Common Goldeneye
Hooded Merganser
Red-breasted Merganser
Common Loon
Red-necked Grebe
Cooper's Hawk
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull

Belted Kingfisher
Black-capped Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch
Golden-crowned Kinglet
European Starling
Yellow-rumped Warbler
American Tree Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Song Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
House Finch
American Goldfinch
House Sparrow

On a day like this, a post-walk warm-up at Birds and Beans was on he agenda for many of us! There are a few photos below of some of the birds that weren’t too fast or distant:
