April 2025 Bird Walk

Cesar Ponce led our April 26 walk at Colonel Samuel Smith Park. This is normally the walk with the highest species count of the year. Unfortunately, the birds didn’t get the memo. Birds were generally scarce and difficult to see (despite the lack of leaves). Migration has been a bit delayed this spring, and we missed some species that would typically be abundant by now.

Best birds were a Green Heron, seen by many before it flew out of view, and a very early Yellow Warbler. We didn’t go to the lake, so our species list doesn’t include many waterfowl. Despite teh challenges, we still managed to find 41 species on the walk. Here’s the full list:
